Scuola Secondaria di I grado "Mastro Giorgio - Nelli" is in Gubbio, a beautiful mediaeval town in the north of the region Umbria, in the centre of Italy. The town is very large but it has only 32.000 inhabitants.  Gubbio has got lots of ancient churches, palaces, monuments and buildings. There are lots of old traditions and festivities, in particular the "Ceri Feast" (Festa dei Ceri) on 15th May, and the highest "Christmas Tree" in the world. Its economy is based on agriculture, artisanship, small and middle industries and tourism. The families take care of their children and generally participate to their school life; most of them belong to the middle class. The economic crisis is involving even our families but till now the problems seem to be quite limited. There are some immigrants from Albany, East Europe, South America, China and North Africa. Not all of them are well integrated but the volunteer associations and the teachers at school work hard to support and improve their integration.
Our school institution has got four school buildings: the two biggest are in the town center (the main building has got 13 classrooms, a computer lab and a small gymnasium; the other one has got 18 classrooms, a computer lab and a gymnasium); the other two are very small and are in two villages (each one of them has got 3 classrooms, a small computer lab, a small school canteen and a gymnasium).  Each classroom in all the school buildings has got an interactive board connected with a computer or a laptop.
PUPILS
There are about 900 pupils aged 11-14. We have about 35 pupils with physical and cognitive disabilities, and about 100 pupils with special educational needs (dyslexia, social needs and economic difficulties),  about 14%; all of them have special teachers who work together with the subject class teachers for most of the school timetable; we haven't got any pupils with juvenile violence problems. We haven't got any  dropouts or refugees. We have a school orchestra of about 60 pupils who play violin, piano, trumpet, recorder, drums, saxophone and percussions; we have a school choir of about 30 pupils.
